Frequently Asked Questions
Can Uwon Carriers ship a car internationally?
Yes. We coordinate international car shipping from the US to most countries worldwide including the UK, Germany, Australia, UAE, Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, Japan, Canada, and more. We handle the US-side transport and ocean freight coordination, and work with trusted destination agents for customs clearance and delivery.
How much does international car shipping cost?
International shipping costs vary significantly by destination. US to UK: $1,200–$2,500 via RoRo. US to Germany: $1,400–$2,800. US to Australia: $2,500–$4,500. US to UAE: $2,000–$4,000. US to Nigeria/Ghana: $1,500–$3,500. Costs include ocean freight but not destination import duties and taxes (which vary by country).
What documents do I need to export my car?
You'll need: (1) Original title lien-free, or letter from lienholder, (2) Bill of sale, (3) Passport or driver's license, (4) Completed export power of attorney, (5) AES Electronic Export Information filing. If the car is less than 25 years old, EPA and FMVSS compliance documentation may be needed for some countries.
How long does international car shipping take?
Transit times vary by destination. US to UK: 12–18 days. US to Germany: 14–20 days. US to Australia: 25–40 days. US to UAE: 18–28 days. US to West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana): 18–30 days. These are ocean transit times — add 5–10 days for port processing on each end.
What is RoRo vs. container shipping?
RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) is the most common and affordable method — your vehicle is driven onto a specialized ship and secured on the deck. Container shipping places your vehicle inside a 20ft or 40ft container, offering more protection but at higher cost. RoRo is standard for running vehicles; containers are used for non-runners or high-value classics.
Are there import duties on vehicles shipped internationally?
Yes — most countries charge import duties and taxes on vehicles. Rates vary widely: UK charges 6.5% duty + 20% VAT. Australia charges 5% duty + 10% GST. UAE charges 5% duty. Nigeria charges 35%+ duty. We help you estimate total landed cost before booking. Duties are paid in the destination country — not to us.
Can I ship a car that is under finance / has a lien?
If your vehicle has a loan or lien, you'll need a letter of authorization from your lender to export the vehicle. Some lenders prohibit international export entirely. We recommend confirming with your lender before booking international shipping.
